The numbers you need to know

60 - 80

UK veterans take their own life each year.

Most veterans know of at least one friend / colleague that has taken their own life.

352

Veterans helped into full time work last year.

6850

Episodes of support given to veterans & their families by WWTW last year

963

Veterans with complex social welfare needs supported last year.

Why your help is so necessary

Every year, between 60 - 80 veterans take their own life, more than one each week.

For many, what they witnessed during their time in the forces will never leave them.

When they leave the forces, many find it difficult to re-integrate into civilian life.  Instead of helping them, Government agencies often make it hard for veterans. Instead of being at the front of the queue for help, veterans often have to fight bureaucracy to get even the most basic help, which they are entitled to.

Unfortunately, for some, this fight for help becomes too much. They lose the fight with their inner demons and they give up.

The Walks

This year, I'm walking from Stockport to Telford. A distance of around 62 miles. The route and stops etc. hasn't been decided yet. I'll post these details later.

The walk will again be for Walking With The Wounded.

The reason for this walk, apart from the obvious fund raising, is to remember my mum, Beryl Smith, who died on the 15 December 1975 aged 37.

Christmas is a time spent with families. I was 8 the last time I spent Christmas with mum.

This year, I intend to walk from my dad & brother's grave at Stockport Crematorium to my mum's grave at St. Peter's Church, Priorslee, Telford. A distance of 62 miles (100Km).

What Walking With The Wounded do

Walking With The Wounded ‘WWTW’ deliver employment, mental health, care coordination and volunteering programmes in collaboration with the NHS to get those who served, and their families, whether mentally, socially or physically wounded, back on their feet and making a positive contribution once more.

Why?

Because those who served, deserve.
